This week: Best Alternative Album. And the nominees are…
Grammy History: Nominated in 2007 for “Yendo A La Casa De Damien” (Best Rock Song).
Notas: During the production of the album Bipolar, the band was restructured and added two new members after guitarist/vocalist Ricardo Musso parted with the group. Despite that, El Cuarteto de Nos celebrates their 30th year since forming in Uruguay.
Notas: The solo rocker scores his first Grammy nomination in his fifteen year career with CPC – an album he’s literally giving away for free download online. Perrozompopo hit the stage in Miami and Los Angeles, hoping to “trespass borders” and bring music from Nicaragua to the international level. His brother is el principe de la salsa Luis Enrique, a multiple Grammy Award winner.
Grammy History: Previously nominated in 2007 for their self-titled album (Best Rock Album).
Notas: Produced by Molotov’s Tito F, the album also earned the band a Best Rock Song nomination. Since forming in Mexico City in 2003, these alternative rockers have gone on to perform with Molotov, Franz Ferdinand, and The Killers.
Notas:For the album, the band’s U.S. debut, Banda de Turistas created a compilation from their two previous albums. The band created an eclectic mix of nostalgic sounds that easily pleased indie music fans. Their album (its sound has been compared to that of The Beatles) was produced in collaboration with once Yoko Ono collaborator Mario Caldato, Jr.
