LISTEN: Cher Enlists This Mexican Singer for Spanglish Version of ‘DJ Play a Christmas Song’

Cher is surprisingly tapping into the Spanish-language music market. On Friday (Nov. 29), the pop legend teamed up with Belinda for a new version of her holiday hit “DJ Play a Christmas Song.”
Cher is no stranger to dabbling in Latine music. In 2020, she released a Spanish version of the song “Chiquitita” by ABBA. Cher’s cover led to her first entry on Billboard’s Latin Digital Songs chart, which peaked at No. 6. Now she joins forces with Spanish-Mexican pop icon Belinda for a Spanglish version of “DJ Play a Christmas Song.”
The original version of “DJ Play a Christmas Song” is club banger. Cher embraces the disco-pop sound and Autotune of her global hit “Believe” in this feel-good track. In the new duet, Belinda translates the emotions of hitting the dance floor during the holidays into Spanish. She also belts her heart out with a bit of Autotune to sing with Cher in English. A Cher and Belinda collaboration wasn’t on the bingo card, but it’s a nice Christmas gift, especially for their fans in the LGBTQ+ community.
Belinda’s fans are excited about her unexpected collaboration with Cher. On X, one fan wrote in Spanish, “Not even Nostradamus could have predicted that one day we would have a collab between Cher and Belinda, much less that it would be for a Christmas song in Spanglish. A new camp peak and my new obsession of course.” Another person wrote, “The collaboration I didn’t know I needed in my life from Cher and Belinda.”
Belinda’s version of “DJ Play a Christmas Song” follows her past year of corrido-pop releases, including “Cactus” and “300 Noches” with Natanael Cano. She made a triumphant return to pop in “Jackpot” featuring Kenia Os. Over the weekend, Belinda attended Kenia’s Pink Aura Tour stop in Mexico City.
