LISTEN: Christina Vidal Revisits This ‘Freaky Friday’ Classic for ‘Freakier’ Sequel

Christina Vidal is plugging her guitar back in for the upcoming Freakier Friday movie. The Nuyorican actress recorded a new version of a classic song from the original film, Freaky Friday. Vidal also recently reunited with Pink Slip to perform “Take Me Away.”
Freakier Friday is the sequel to the 2003 Disney film Freaky Friday. Vidal starred in the movie with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Her character Maddie was a member of the fictitious group Pink Slip, which included Lohan’s Anna and Haley Hudson’s Peg. In a memorable moment, Vidal performed Lash’s “Take Me Away” with Lohan and Hudson at the House of Blues. With Lohan and Curtis’s characters having switched bodies, the latter had to unleash the song’s killer guitar solo from backstage.
Billed as Christina Vidal Mitchell, she is returning for Freakier Friday. Ahead of the movie’s release next month, she recorded a new version of “Take Me Away.” The punk-rock edge of the original is amplified in this updated version. Now at 43, Vidal sounds more mature while wailing the song, but she also taps into that teenage angst once again. The former Taina star breathes new life into this 2000s gem for longtime fans of the first film.
Earlier this month, the cast of Freakier Friday made a surprise appearance at Disneyland. Jamie Lee Curtis introduced a special performance by Pink Slip, which included Christina Vidal and Haley Hudson. Lindsay Lohan wasn’t present, so Suzy Shinn took her place. Vidal stepped right back into her shoes as Maddie and brought down the house with her performance of “Take Me Away.” From the audience, Curtis didn’t miss a beat with her iconic air guitar solo.
Freakier Friday will open in theaters everywhere on Aug. 8. Christina Vidal and Pink Slip’s new version of “Take Me Away” is now streaming on all digital music platforms.
