Pride month is at its peak, and so are the music releases coming with it! Today (June 10), the Chilean indie-pop singer-songwriter Javiera Mena released her latest single, “La Isla De Lesbos.” What’s Pride month without new music from the electro-pop queen herself?

“I send warmth from the Tropic of Cancer to all my friends in the Tropic of Capricorn,” Mena wrote in an Instagram post. “I hope you listen to it on all digital platforms!” The social media post also revealed the track’s cover art, which depicts a minimalistic body silhouette with a palm tree in the center. The Instagram post’s caption included the hashtags “queer pride” and “lesbian,” reinforcing Mena’s signature LGBTQ+ pride.
The indie-pop track starts with soft, dreamy chords on top of subtle wave sounds that evolve into a groovy electronic pop beat once Mena starts singing. A particular characteristic of “La Isla De Lesbos” is the use of sensual whispers peppered throughout the three-minute and nine-second track, adding a unique touch to the music production. Throughout the single, powerful drums also highlight the title’s island essence leading to the last whisper that says: “I want to taste your lips on the beach.”
A Twitter user said: “If Javiera Mena tells me that I have to visit the island of lesbos, I think I have to visit the island of lesbos.”
Another Twitter user said: “Javiera Mena has just released the anthem that will smash the pavement at the next Pride march.”
Though we don’t have an album release date yet, we look forward to Mena’s potential single releases. “I’m very much a song-driven artist,” Mena told Remezcla in a recent interview describing her single song release format. Could it be that this is a taste of her newest album project?
