Listen: Javiera Mena's "La Joya" [CHL]

This has Cristián Heyne written all over it. “Espada” already alluded to Javiera Mena’s amped-up interest in synth-pop for her upcoming third album, but it’s “La Joya” that’s really sealing the deal. The track is unashamed, unencumbered, and undeniable. It embraces all the unabashed cheesiness of ’80s pop, dance music, and early Latin pop hits in fearless form.

Listen to “La Joya” below and try not to imagine yourself in a movie montage. Someone should re-cut that scene in Mannequin—where Samantha Jones and Andrew McCarthy dance around the department store while trying on different outfits—with this song instead. But not really because that scene is perfect so forget I said anything.
