From K-pop to pop-punk, Mexican band Wiplash is setting the night alive with their own take on a BTS classic. In celebration of BTS Day (June 13), which commemorates the South Korean group’s debut anniversary, Wiplash has unveiled a reimagined version of BTS’s chart-topping hit, “Dynamite.”
The Mexican band’s cover is a perfect blend of whirling guitars and heavy drum hits that pay homage to the original song while infusing it with their unique style and energy. “This is a gift from us to all the BTS Army that have always supported us,” the band wrote in a statement on Instagram. “We hope you enjoy it.”
“Dynamite” holds a special place in the hearts of BTS fans worldwide. Released in Aug. 2020, the single was BTS’s first all-English track, and it quickly shattered numerous records, making history by becoming the first song by a South Korean act to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Wiplash formed as a band back in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic when Moore, Roberto, Daniel, and Diego were individually pursuing music and uploading content on TikTok. They serendipitously met through the app and decided to form a band. The group caught Remezcla’s attention in 2021 with their punk rendition of Bad Bunny’s “Yonaguni.”
This year has been filled with milestones for Wiplash. In May, they released their second album, Navarte, under Virgin Music. Additionally, Wiplash is set to embark on its Para Siempre Tour, bringing its high-energy performances to the festival circuit. The tour includes stops in Querétaro, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and an appearance at Ruido Fest in Chicago, IL (Aug 20), where stars like Juanes and Sabrina Claudio are also set to appear.
