Marco Antonio Solís stays cementing his legacy. This time, “El Buki” will be recognized as the 2022 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year at this year’s 23rd Annual Latin Grammy Awards.

“I am very moved and grateful to The Latin Recording Academy for this special distinction that means so much to me professionally and personally,” the Mexican singer said via press release. “I would like to share this sentiment with everyone who has inspired me, and with those who I may have inspired as well to be able to occupy this place that the public has made me deserving of through this blessing called music.” He then continued to thank his “loyal audiences” who have supported him through his musical trajectory, as well as the Latin Academy for considering him as one of the “greats that have left a mark in the world of music.”

Solís has surpassed many milestones in his musical career. In addition to having more than 16 albums to his name, his trajectory is currently featured at the “Y Para Siempre… Marco Antonio Solís” permanent exhibit located at the Grammy Museum’s Latin Music Gallery. His music has also been featured in iconic films, like in the Oscar-nominated film Y Tu Mamá También. Moreover, he recently lent his voice to the Spanish-language version of the animated Disney/Pixar film Coco.

“Marco Antonio Solís is a living legend and one of the most emblematic figures in Latin music,” the CEO of the Latin Recording Academy, Manuel Abud, said in a written statement. “He continues to break down generational barriers through his poignant lyrics which move millions of people and inspire greater acceptance and understanding. For this, we are honored to bestow him with the 2022 Latin Academy Person of the Year distinction.”

The “Si No Te Hubieras Ido” singer-songwriter will be celebrated at the Latin Grammy Awards later this year. The official date for the awards has yet to be announced.
