Natanael Cano Responds to Alleged Threat from Cartel

Natanael Cano is seemingly speaking out about a recent death threat received from the organized crime group Los Mata Salas discovered earlier this week. The Hermosillo-native corridos tumbados star posted a now-deleted social media message, stating that the only “mantitas” he’s worried about are Nata cobijas, seemingly responding to the organized crime group’s narco manta found in a school in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, on Sunday (Jan. 5).
Reports indicate that on early Sunday (Jan. 5), a narco manta – a banner put up by cartels in public places with specific warnings or messages – was found calling out artists like Cano, Tito Torbellino Jr., and Javier Rosas, warning them about not supporting their rival cartel group Los Salazar. The banner read: “Dedicate yourselves to what is yours, which is the profession of musicians. This is not because of making corridos, it is for collaborating with money economically and any illegal action. If you do not heed this warning, you will be shot.” The banner was signed off by Jalisco Mata Salas.
On Jan. 6, it was reported that Cano responded to the message by uploading a photo of blankets with his face on them. He wrote: “The only mantitas I’m worried about right now. Will they keep me warm?” The post also included his song “AFS,” which mentions the organized crime groups. The post was reportedly deleted shortly after it was posted.
Cano isn’t the only one who responded to the alleged death threats. Yesterday (Jan. 7), La Fiscalía de Sonora, or The Prosecutor’s Office of Sonora, announced they’d offer protection from the state to keep away from “an aggression in relation to the direct threat that appears on this banner,” per AP News. However, AP News mentions the office did not provide further details on the said protection.

Over the past years, other música mexicana artists like Fuerza Regida and Peso Pluma have canceled shows over these types of alleged public death threats via narco mantas.
