Nicki Minaj has tapped a rising Texas native for her new album. Last night (Dec. 7), the rap icon released Pink Friday 2, featuring Mexican-American artist Lourdiz on the song “Cowgirl.”

Minaj’s highly-anticipated Pink Friday 2 boasts high-profile collaborations. Drake features on the song “Needle,” Lil Wayne joins her on “RNB,” and “Everybody” features Lil Uzi Vert. One name that might be new to people is Lourdiz. Back in 2021, Remezcla spoke with the San Antonio singer about proudly representing her Tejano culture in her music.

“I grew up around people wearing cowboy hats and people listening to Tejano music,” Lourdiz told Remezcla at the time. “It’s definitely going to come out and show up in what I do.”

Now, Lourdiz is repping Tejano culture on her biggest platform yet alongside one of hip-hop’s top stars. Minaj enlisted Lourdiz to co-write and feature on “Cowgirl.” In the dreamy and country-infused track, Minaj spits rhymes about enjoying a rodeo-like romp in the bedroom. Lourdiz’s otherworldly vocals appear in the chorus, where she sings, “Just wanna get drunk tonight and I’ma ride him, cowgirl.” Minaj wanted some vaquera authenticity with “Cowgirl” and she was a genius to find that with Lourdiz.

“MOMENT 4 LIFE,” Lourdiz wrote in a post on Instagram about working with Nicki Minaj. “I LOVE U QUEEN THANK U FOR BELIEVING IN ME AND GIVING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY & LOVING ME.”

Collaborating with Nicki Minaj isn’t Lourdiz’s first time working in the hip-hop music scene. Back in 2021, Saweetie featured her in the song “Back Seat.” On Spotify, Lourdiz’s most-streamed songs are “Backseat,” “Me Time” with Carneyval, and her own single “Somersault.” Earlier this year, she released a string of singles, including “Trust Issues,” “Heartbreakers,” and “All My B**ches.”
