Regional Mexican music continues to resurge in popularity, and the genre will be on full display at this month’s Premios Juventud, with Mexican-American icon Pepe Aguilar leading the charge. He will be producing a spot on the awards featuring all the nominees in the Regional Roots 2.0 category in special performance together. Among the names included will be his daughter Ángela Aguilar, Alex Fernández, Jr. (grandson of Vicente Fernández), and rising Mexican star Christian Nodal.

“I can contribute what I know of Mexican music to the youth,” the elder Aguilar said in a statement to Remezcla. “I’m very happy that above all, all the nominees thought this was a very good idea.”

Also nominated in the Regional Roots 2.0, or El Agave de la Música, category are Colombian mariachi music artist Pipe Bueno and Mexican singer El Bebeto. They’ll be joining the younger Aguilar, Fernández, and Nodal as the new faces of regional Mexican music performing classics in the genre. Pepe has already revealed that one of the songs in the medley will be the beloved “Cielito Lindo” that was popularized by Mexican legend Pedro Infante.

The El Agave de la Música segment produced by Pepe will be the first time that regional Mexican nominees all perform together at Premios Juventud. To see history go down, tune into the awards on July 18 on Univision.
