Chicocurlyhead and YUNA intertwine their genre-bending talent. On Sept. 5, the rising Panamanian-American singer-songwriter and the popular Malaysian singer teamed up for an afrobeat love letter called “I’ll Show You,” exclusively premiering via Remezcla.

“I’ll Show You” oozes afrobeats and R&B elements in an amapiano-influenced pop soundscape by producers Different Sleep, BeatsByAdrian, and FRNCH. The bilingual song features sweet, heartfelt lyrics about showing unconditional love to one another. To Chicocurlyhead, this marks one of his favorite songs to date. “This is a beautiful song, honestly. I think I rarely say that, at least about my own music, but this song is about showing how much music can make you love and care for someone,” he tells Remezcla over email. “I hope this one helps to spread love and appreciation. I also have to thank YUNA for being a part of this song and for contributing to my vision.”

The new music video, directed by Olivia De Camps, features a storyline between Chico and a lover through an artistic blue and yellow color filter lens. YUNA also makes an appearance, surrounded by graceful dancers under a dimly lit ambiance. The music video overall features theatrical dancers in rhythm to the song’s pulsing beat.

YUNA hopped on the rhythmic, bass-driven number after Chicocurlyhead contacted her via Instagram. He shares that he liked her voice and he had a song that he wanted her to be on. “She replied not long after, saying she loved the track and would love to be a part of it,” Chico recalls.

Once the song hit her inbox, everything happened “organically,” according to YUNA. “I listened to it and I immediately fell in love with it,” she says via email. “It was so cool and lush sounding – it only took me an hour to come up with a verse. It’s as if I was meant to be on this song!”

Not only did the song come out naturally, but the Malaysian singer sprinkled in Spanish, making the collaboration that much more special and intertwined. Although it was Chico’s idea, YUNA says that she’s in the middle of learning Spanish and was excited to sing a “lil español.” When asked if there are any more Spanish tracks in her future, she says: “I’m still learning so I definitely need some guidance. I’d love for Chico to teach me and write something for me in the future!”

Beyond the rich afrobeats melody, the song also features a sultry saxophone outro and piano chords that add more layers to the pop track. After Chico’s popular songs like the trap-influenced R&B track “Modelo” and the synth-pop number “Hace Mucho” alongside jame minogue, it’s exciting to see the emerging star keep expanding and continuously experimenting with his music abilities. And we’re not the only ones looking forward to his upcoming music. “I really can’t wait for his glow up moment!” Yuna says about Chico.

“I’ll Show You” follows Chicocurlyhead’s latest EP NEVERENDING ROADTRIP, which was released in June. He’s expected to drop more new music soon.
