Princess Nokia Teases New Music With Short Film About Her Yoruba Roots

If you’re a faithful Remezcla reader, you’ll know that we hailed Princess Nokia’s 1992 EP as a standout project from 2016, a year packed with releases from music industry giants like Beyoncé and Kanye West. Since that EP dropped last September, the young New York rapper’s career has exploded on the word stage; she embarked on tours across Europe and in Latin America, nabbed a fashion sponsorship with Urban Outfitters and Champion, and steadily built a fan base across the globe.

Today she announces a deluxe edition of 1992, packed with eight brand new songs and fresh, remastered versions of the EP’s previous tracks. To mark the occasion, Destiny Frasqueri has unveiled a mesmerizing prequel to the video for “Brujas.”

The short film, titled Maiden, Mermaid, Well, finds Frasqueri whispering a prayer-like poem about her spirituality and Yoruba roots, over a visual from the previously released video.

Keep an eye out for 1992 Deluxe, set to drop on September 8 via Rough Trade.
