One of Selena’s most iconic albums is getting celebrated in a special way. For the upcoming 30th anniversary of Amor Prohibido, the album will be available for purchase on vinyl for the first time.
Amor Prohibido was the last album Quintanilla released during her lifetime. The LP originally dropped on March 22, 1994. A little over a year later, the queen of Tejano music was tragically murdered on March 31, 1995.
Amor Prohibido became the first Tejano music LP to peak at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. She released four of her most iconic songs of her career as singles. The album included “Amor Prohibido,” “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” “No Me Queda Más,” and “Fotos y Recuerdos.”
In honor of Amor Prohibido’s 30th anniversary, a remastered version of the album will be released. The songs were mixed with Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio. On March 22, the remastered version will be available on all music streaming platforms.
That same day, fans will be able to pre-order the Amor Prohibido remaster on CD, cassette, and vinyl. A new cover art was also created for the three physical formats in honor of the album’s 30th anniversary.
Previously, the only Quintanilla album that was widely available on vinyl was the greatest hits collection, Ones. When Ones was reissued on vinyl in 2020, Quintanilla continued to make history. She became the first artist to peak at No. 1 on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart with a Latine music LP thanks to the success of Ones.
After her passing, Quintanilla’s posthumous album Dreaming of You was released in July 1995. The album included English-language songs that she was recording for her crossover album, as well as a few of her greatest hits in Spanish. When it peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, she became the first Latine music artist to reach the summit.
