After releasing a press statement about her situation last month, Alicia Villarreal opened up about her domestic violence claims today (Mar. 11). The Mexican singer talked to TV Azteca’s Ventaneando about what happened the night of the alleged abuse, and gave an update about her pending divorce from music producer and former Kumbia Kings member Cruz Martínez.
Last month, the Mexican singer went viral after making the domestic violence sign, known as the Signal for Help, on stage during her performance in Michoacán, Mexico (Feb. 16). Since then, the popular Mexican singer reportedly filed a formal complaint at The Specialized Prosecutor for Femicides and Crimes Against Women in Monterrey, Mexico, against Martínez for alleged domestic violence.
During Ventaneando’s exclusive, Villarreal talked to host Pati Chapoy about what’s happening in her life. Villarreal opened up about not thinking that her hand gesture would go viral, but that she knew she had to do something to leave evidence of what she was going through. She also recounted that during that night (Feb. 15), she went through things that nobody should go through. She said she only thought of the need to protect herself, and that the next day (Feb. 16), she had to go to work.
Chapoy asked if the night of the alleged violence was aggressive, to which she replied, “demasiado,” or “too much.” She said she didn’t know how she got out of the house. She later recounted that she went to her office after the situation happened. She also said it’s hard for her to recount everything that happened because of the ongoing legal process. To clear up other ongoing rumors, she also said she didn’t share any business or financial ties with her husband.

“But what exactly is wrong with him? I don’t know,” she said, adding that she doesn’t understand Cruz’s reaction that day, why he did it and how he got to that point. “I didn’t do anything because I haven’t affected or bothered him. I’ve been in my house because it’s my house. I’ve been in my house with my children, caring for them.”
She also said that she has yet to receive her cell phone, cards, and objects that were taken from her that night, since they’re now part of the investigation. At the end of the first part of the interview, she said she would rather not see him again.
Moreover, Villarreal also gave Chapoy an update about her divorce. It appears she is still in the process, and told Chapoy that it’s been years of physical and emotional abuse. She said her family was a big part of her staying in the relationship and that she’s been asking for a divorce since 2021. At this point, she also showed the host documented evidence about the divorce and alleged that Martínez has been denying the process.
