In case you missed it, Bad Bunny’s newest video for “Neverita” is the buzz of the week. From meme references to recreating Elvis Crespo’s iconic “Suavemente” video shots, the music video became an instant hit among social media users. But what did the OG merengue singer think of the tribute? Here’s what Crespo said about the new video’s tribute to his 1998 classic today (Aug. 23).

“I liked it very much, I loved it. I liked seeing Bad Bunny in the mambo – in character – he is an artist of this era with these roots,” Crespo said on Facebook Live. “For him to use something inspired by my art, that makes me feel very happy and grateful. I humbly thank him and his team for having considered that part of history, like the ‘Suavemente’ music video is part of.”

After recapping “Suavemente”’s trajectory, he continued praising Bad Bunny. “To Benito, thank you. I wish him much success in his career, may God bless him. May he be a wise man, may he enjoy the moment, but without ceasing to be himself. It seems to me that he is on the right track. My instinct tells me that he is a very humble and simple young man.”

Crespo also posted about it on his official TikTok. The short clip shows him smiling at the TikTok video’s comparisons of his original music video with Benito’s “Neverita.”

Fans of both artists used this opportunity to thank both artists. TikTok user gabriellalascano wrote: “We recognize our amazing roots and our idols 🥰🥰🥰 You are an icon.” Other social media users are calling for a collaboration. A TikTok user Ernesto wrote: “Can y’all imagine the merengue collab!?😳😳😳 pure!!!🔥🔥🔥”

Imagine if the two collaborated or sang a duo live? For those who are following Benito’s World’s Hottest Tour, it’s not out of the ordinary for him to bring out surprise guests. Just last Saturday (Aug. 20), he brought out Ivy Queen to sing “Yo Perreo Sola” in Chicago, IL.

Will Crespo be part of his upcoming surprise guests now that “Neverita” is out?
