WATCH: Ice Spice Raps in Spanish for the First Time With Tokischa on ‘Thootie’

Ice Spice is putting her Dominican roots front and center. On Dec. 5, the Dominican-American rapper teamed up with Dominican rapper Tokischa on their newest collaboration, “Thootie.” The result? A catchy bilingual dembow featuring Ice Spice rapping in Spanish for the first time.
“This was a fun record for me. It’s the first-time people are actually hearing me speak or rap in Spanish and it was fun to show another side of who I am, and it’s even more special that I got to do it with Toki,” Ice Spice said about the new song in a press statement. “We went to the Dominican Republic to shoot the video last month and it was a vibe. I definitely felt at home.”
Produced by long-time collaborator RiotUSA, “Thootie” features a pulsing dembow beat with a thick, booty-bouncing bass, and a catchy whistle in the production. With verses like, “Rosadita el pelo y el p*ssy (Mwah) I get money, me gustan los Chucky (Ah) ¿”¿Qué lo que, Toki? Andamo’ rulin (Rulin),” and, “Sin cotorra, cero bullshit (Grrah) / Ando trola en decompute (Damn) / Dame banda, yo quiero tuti,” Ice dives into her Dominican roots and lets her Spanish shine. In the new song, Toki matches Ice’s baddie energy, without missing a beat in her flow.
The music video, directed by Tokischa and Richard Cordones, features the rappers in the Dominican Republic’s colorful neighborhoods singing and dancing as the background dancers perform mundane activities, such as laundry. Other scenes show the Dominican duo in a car with a built-in sound system, a wink to their culture. The music video also features a cameo by Gigi, known for her appearance in La Casa de Alofoke.
“I’m so happy we finally got to make a song. It’s been a while since we’ve wanted to. When she sent me ‘Thootie’ it was instant,” Tokischa said about the new collaboration in a press release. “I gotta give it to the producers, they did a great job with the beat, not everyone who didn’t grow up in the DR can make a dembow hot like that.”
