A special boxing match was held in Mexico City on Saturday night (Aug. 24) and a corridos tumbados star was in attendance. Natanael Cano joined Floyd Mayweather Jr. and performed a cover of a Ariel Camacho classic.

Mayweather Jr. and John Gotti III decided to have a rematch at the Mexico City Arena. Their first boxing match back in June 2023 erupted into a fight between their teams. Though Mayweather Jr. retired seven years ago, he has continued to box in special matches. With his next match taking place in Mexico, he brought out Cano to join him. On his way to the ring with Mayweather Jr., he sang the song “El Toro Encartado” by the late Ariel Camacho. The new generation of corridos tumbados and sierreño stars often cite Camacho, who passed away in 2015, as an inspiration.

Cano and Mayweather Jr. were also joined by Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis. Many of Cano’s fans were excited to see the corridos tumbados pioneer representing Mexico at the boxing match. One person on X wrote in Spanish, “MAYWEATHER CAME OUT WITH NATA, NAAAAAAH he automatically won.” Another person wrote, “Talk about the Big Three: Nata, Mayweather and AD.”

The fight between Mayweather Jr. and Gotti III was an exhibition match, so it was not officially scored. The first dominated each round overall against his opponent.

The night before, Cano put on a special concert at the Foro Sol in Mexico City, which was available to watch via Disney+ in Latin America. He performed all his big hits and was joined by many special guests. Spanish-Mexican pop star Belinda joined Cano to sing their song “300 Noches” live together. Peso Pluma also came out to perform, among many songs, “Vino Tinto” with Cano. They were later joined by Gabito Ballesteros for a performance of “AMG.”
