Rauw Alejandro goes back to his hometown in his new music video for “De Carolina,” released today (Dec. 8). The Puerto Rican superstar teamed up with a reggaeton pioneer DJ Playero, who also appears in the music video.

“De Carolina” is the most meaningful song on Rauw’s latest album Saturno. He blended his futuristic vision of reggaeton with the classic mixtape style of DJ Playero, who was an architect in helping shape the sound of the genre. Rave-ready beats collide with a sped-up sample from the Playero 38 mixtape. “We are from Carolina, and we are coming to party,” Rauw sings in Spanish, making Puerto Rico proud with the out-of-this-world collaboration.

Rauw brings the party to life in the music video for “De Carolina.” He cruises around the city streets where he grew up while highlighting the everyday life of the locals. While singing about Puerto Rican baseball icon Roberto Clemente, a statue of the player in Puerto Rico is shown. Rauw later puts on a concert for the people in Carolina. As he is hyping up the crowd onstage, DJ Playero is there by his side. This video is a heartfelt tribute to his hometown “con cojones,” as Rauw says.

The music video for “De Carolina” comes on the heels of Rauw announcing his upcoming tour. The Saturno World Tour will kick off in Feb. of next year in the Dominican Republic. The U.S. leg of the tour launches on Mar. 5 in Tampa, FL. Rauw will be joined on tour by the Jabbawockeez. He performed with the dance troupe at last month’s Latin Grammy Awards.

Rauw is currently nominated for the 2023 Grammy Awards. His EP Trap Cake, Vol. 2 faces competition from Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, Maluma, and Farruko in the Best Música Urbana Album category.
