Rosalía is officially back! On Oct. 27, the Spanish superstar revealed “Berghain.” It’s the first single from her upcoming album, LUX. The result? An unexpected, chaotic, dramatic, orchestral track that left us speechless. “Berghain” features Icelandic singer-songwriter Björk and American experimental musician Yves Tumor.

After weeks of speculation, Rosalía finally released new music. She previously teased “Berghain” on her social media by publishing the song’s sheet music. Curious social media users interpreted the notes with their instruments, but little did they know that the Spanish singer would add opera vocals and a captivating choir to the mix. The song’s intro features Rosalía in a new light: singing opera in German alongside an orchestra. She then sings in Spanish as classical music dramatically decrescendos, giving space for lyrics like: “Yo sé muy bien lo que soy / Ternura pa’l café / Solo soy un terrón de azúcar / Sé que me funde el calor / Sé desaparecer / Cuando tú vienes es cuando me voy.”

Visually, the music video follows Rosalía as she goes through her day—having coffee, making her bed, ironing, and riding a bus, as an orchestra following her every move. Towards the end of the video, she enters a Snow White-esque universe as Björk (as a bird) sings in German and English. The outro features Miami-born artist Yves Tumor with loud drums, adding to Rosi’s fever dreams. The music video was directed by longtime Nicolás Méndez, who also directed “Malamente,” “TKN,” and “Pienso En Tu Mirá.”

This isn’t the first time Rosalía has collaborated with Björk. The two artists released their joint track “Oral” in 2023, as part of a campaign to combat open-net pen fish farming in Iceland. “Oral” is a dancehall experimental track co-produced by themselves and Sega Bodega. With “Berghain” we see a different side of their creative minds, giving us a new classical track with the help of the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daníel Bjarnason.

LUX is out Nov. 7. The CD and vinyl editions will feature three exclusive tracks, “inviting listeners to experience the album in its most immersive form,” per the press release.
