Yahritza y Su Esencia are kicking off the new year with new music. Today (Jan. 6), the Mexican-American trio released the music video for “Cambiaste.” The group’s lead singer Yahritza Martínez sings their new song in a Mexican trajinera.

After “Soy El Unico,” Yahritza y Su Esencia released the Obsessed EP and the song “Inseparables” featuring Ivan Cornejo. Now they are following that up with their new single “Cambiaste.” The trio pushed their sierreño sound to new places with an alternative and psychedelic touch. In the heartbreaking ballad, Martínez sings about yearning for a lover that left her behind. Though the change of heart has left her feeling hurt, she still has love for the person. “Cambiaste” is a fresh switch-up in sound for Yahritza y Su Esencia that highlights Martínez’s timeless voice.

Yahritza y Su Esencia leaves their home state of Washington to visit Mexico in the “Cambiaste” music video, which was directed by Christian Schmid Rincón. The trio connects to their Mexican roots while exploring Xochimilco. Martínez and her brothers take a cruise on the lake in a colorful trajinera. Their little boat is specifically customized with the name of the band with the word “Cambiaste.”

2022 was a breakthrough year for Yahritza y Su Esencia. Back in April, Martínez made history with the band’s lead single, “Soy El Unico.” At 15 years old, she became the youngest Latine artist to appear on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart when the song debuted at No. 20. In Nov., Yahritza y Su Esencia was nominated for Best New Artist at the Latin Grammy Awards. Martínez is making waves for women in the male-dominated regional Mexican music scene.

“If I put myself out there, I want people to feel inspired that they can do the same,” she told Remezcla back in April. “Just be yourself. People will love you because you’re just you.”
