On Feb. 9, the popular Mexican alternative rock band Zoé’s frontman, León Larregui, dropped two new singles as a soloist. He released “Amantes” and “Su Majestad La Eternidad.” He also unveiled a psychedelic video for “Amantes” and an animated video clip for “Su Majestad La Eternidad.”

Larregui’s two new singles showcase the best of what he’s known for. With “Amantes,” he gives us his signature romantic side meshed with slower-paced ballads, found frequently in his solo work. It also features the Finish singer Julia Johansen, who accompanies him on the vocals. On the other hand, with “Su Majestad La Eternidad,” Larregui shows his experimental side by creating an astronomical, psychedelic, and electronic synth ambiance that reminds us of his band’s early sounds and legacy.

Fans of Larregui are excited about his new solo music. About “Amantes,” a YouTube user, @Kallisto9, wrote: “Leon always has the ability to take you to fly to unimaginable spaces😍 it’s indeed a rolón that invites us to be our calm in the midst of the storm and admire the greatness that everyone has inside emphasizing the dual mind that prevails in the human being. Thank you Leon 💜.” Regarding “Su Majestad La Eternidad,” another YouTube user, @BrothersGameplay, wrote: “It’s been a long time since we heard a good mix of synthesizers, what great music.”

This marks the first two solo releases since Larregui’s second solo album, Voluma, from 2016. Before that, Larregui released his debut solo album Solstis (2012). Other remix and live album releases include Volumixes (2016) and Metrópolis (Live) (2017).

Larregui isn’t the only Zoé member working on side music. Band members Jesús Báez (keyboardist) and Ángel Mosqueda (bassist) have also released music through their new duo project named Astronomía Interior. They released their side project’s debut self-titled album on Jan. 19.
