Argentina tapped one of the country’s most prolific singer-songwriters to perform at the 2024 Copa América final. On Sunday (July 14) night, Abel Pintos represented his country and performed Argentina’s national anthem.
Pintos began his music career at age 13 when he released the album Para Cantar He Nacido in 1998. He started receiving critical acclaim with the 2004 album Sentidos where he developed his signature folk music sound. The following year, Pintos won Best New Folk Album/Artist at the Premios Gardel, which is Argentina’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards.
He’s one of the country’s most popular singer-songwriters with over five million monthly listeners on Spotify. Among his biggest hits are “Oncemil,” “Sin Principio Ni Final,” and “No Me Olvides.”
Pintos opened the Copa América final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL. After Colombia and Argentina’s national fútbol teams lined-up on the field, he stepped out with his country’s jersey showing under his blue blazer. As Pintos belted out Argentina’s national anthem, Lionel Messi was also shown singing along. Following his performance, Karol G also appeared to sing Colombia’s national anthem.

There will be more music tonight when Colombian pop icon Shakira performs during the first ever Copa América halftime show. Argentina has previously won the tournament 15 times, including the last Copa América in 2021. Colombia’s first and only time winning the CONMEBOL Copa América trophy was in 2001.
