Xavi is breaking records. On Jan. 24, the young Mexican artist’s song “La Diabla” reportedly became the longest-running No. 1 Latin solo song on Spotify’s Top 50 global chart. He dethroned Bad Bunny’s “MONACO.” And get this: it’s still on top today (Jan. 26).

“I can’t believe it. It’s definitely something I did not expect, I’m just grateful with everyone who’s been supporting the music,” Xavi exclusively tells Remezcla. “This wouldn’t be happening without them.”

“La Diabla,” originally released on Nov. 30, has become quite the sensation this year. On Jan. 2, the emerging Phoenix, AZ, based singer’s viral song received the first No. 1 hit of the year on Spotify’s Top 50 global chart. Consequently, he made history as the first Mexican artist to top the list with a solo song. This marks the fourth time a música mexicana song has gone No. 1 on Spotify. Other songs that have reached this milestone include Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola,” Grupo Frontera’s “Un 100xto” alongside Bad Bunny, and Peso Pluma’s music session collab with Bizarrap.

After Xavi’s No. 1, other songs on today’s (Jan. 26) Top 50 global chart include “greedy” by Tate McRae (No. 2), “yes, and?” by Ariana Grande (No. 3), “Lovin On Me” by Jack Harlow (No. 4), and “One Of The Girls (with JENNIE and Lily-Rose Depp)” by The Weeknd, JENNIE, and Lily-Rose Depp (No. 5). Other Latine songs include “LUNA” by Feid and ATL Jacob (No. 10); “Igual Que Un Ángel” by Kali Uchis and Peso Pluma (No. 11); and “La Víctima” by Xavi (No. 12).

Moreover, as of Jan. 25, “La Diabla” is also the longest-running No. 1 hit of 2024 on the same global chart. It passed Ariana Grande’s “yes, and?” which was No. 1 for nine days.

On Spotify, corridos account for about half of the streams within música mexicana. The genre has gained popularity among Gen Z, whose listening of corridos has increased 116 percent in the last two years.Next up, Xavi is participating in his first-ever music festival in Chicago, IL. He’s part of the upcoming Sueños 2024 lineup and is set to perform on Sat., May 25. Other artists performing that day include Rauw Alejandro, Ivan Cornejo, Young Miko, and Bizarrap.
