AcentOh & Mediopicky’s “Patrimonio” Is a Cutthroat Dose of Dominican Rap

AcentOh, the fast-rising Dominican MC we recently profiled here at Remezcla, is gearing up for what promises to be a hectic 2017. Through two singles released by the end of last year, “Se te olvida?” and “Soy un tipo,” the rapper was introduced as a member of the Stereoptico crew, promising a trap-leaning joint EP with Cohoba that’s set to see the light in the following months. But first on queue is an upcoming EP with fellow Dominican producer and previous collaborator Mediopicky titled Apatheia.

The first glimpse we get of their collaboration is “Patrimonio.” AcentOh is sharp-tongued here, narrating his struggle to thrive in the music business and the self-discipline it takes to capitalize on his ambition. But he slowly gets more cutthroat, spitting “salen locos, salen lentos/pura mierda en la tarima, no conocen de rima/deberían de suicidarse/o morir de sobredosis después de meterse un pase.” Damn. Mediopicky’s old-school, break-based beat matches the attitude, and his synthetic organ chords tone down the mood, making “Patrimonio” a well-balanced rap track. No one said the road to the top was pretty.

Apatheia is out January 30.
