On the heels of breaking the record for the longest-running no.1 by a solo female rapper, plus whispers of an upcoming Beyoncé collab, Dominican-Trinidadian rapper Cardi B‘s mainstream takeover reaches new heights today: a long-rumored Migos and Nicki Minaj collab has finally arrived.
The Bardi gang will be happy to know her verse includes a special surprise. After dropping a few bars about her boo Offset and interpolating a line from “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi manages to cite both Selena and Daddy Yankee in one couplet. Around the 2:43 mark, Cardi spits, “I’m the trap Selena/Dame más gasolina.” Belcalis Almanzar has a well-documented love for reggaeton (catch her belting Ozuna on her Instagram pretty much every other day), so the Daddy Yankee hat tip is no surprise. And the Selena reference just goes to show that la reina continues to be a cultural touchstone across the music world, regardless of genre.
The Murda Beatz-produced track will appear on Migos’ follow-up to Culture. Expect it to burst out of car speakers everywhere.
