The cross-continental, multi-guest phenomenon known to man and beast as Compass (Mexican Institute of Sound and Toy Selectah for the real compas) continues to deliver fusion rhythms to light up the night. This time they have a cool and sensual track with two amazing vocal features from Tiombe Lockhart and Kelli Ali.

“Sunshine” features soul singer Lockhart and songstress Ali (of 90s trip-hop Sneaker Pimps fame) providing the melodic axis for the track to unfold. Here we find an omnipresent police siren, 8-bit dancehall bass, and a delicious cumbia beat. This is a delightfully melodic cut and one of the absolute highlights of the project.

If this wasn’t enough, “Sunshine” comes hand in hand with a rework courtesy of another downtempo legend: Tricky. His version of the track adds some darkness and bite, but the cool and effortless atmosphere of the original version remains intact. His trademark sound is present throughout, though, thanks to his bass-driven treatment and the contrast of his voice in comparison to Lockhart and Ali’s.
