El Dusty Blesses Us With a Cumbia Rework of Kanye West’s “I Love Kanye”

“I Love Kanye” might be the best song on The Life of Pablo. There, I said it. I know these “Ultralight Beam” truthers will come for me, but even the powerful, yearning gospel of Kelly Price can’t compete with the raw candor found in the 45 seconds of “I Love Kanye.” Over nothing but his own voice, Yeezy barks, “What if Kanye made a song, about Kanye?/Called ‘I Miss the Old Kanye’/Man, that’d be so Kanye!” It’s Yeezy at his most self-aware and honest – unapologetic, tongue-in-cheek braggadocio and all.

It’s no surprise, then, that Corpus Christi legend El Dusty decided to give “I Love Kanye” a little cumbia flair. On “I Used to Love Kanye (El Dusty Cumbia Refix),” Dusty Oliveira stretches the 45-second interlude to nearly two minutes of ass-clapping cumbia fire, with a splash of warped, pitched down vocals to boot. Next to the larger-than-life snare rolls, the accordion is wonderfully comical, making this almost OK to play at your primo’s wedding, or your next barbecue.

Press play and set the Kanye Asada puns free, fam.
