Frikstailers Remixed El Guincho’s “Comix” Into Sci-Fi Reggaeton Bliss

HiperAsia, El Guincho‘s newest album, is the latest of the left turns the Canarian producer has taken throughout his career. His single “Comix” has had the most impact so far, perhaps because of its dazzling Canada-directed music video, its off-kilter rhymes, its monstrous hip-hop production, or Mala Rodríguez‘s sultry vocals. Fans have found the song divisive, but there’s no doubt it’s a hit. And now, things are about to go one step further, thanks to a certain cosmic Argentine production duo.

We’re happy to premiere Frikstailers remix of “Comix,” which takes the song down a wonderfully different road. Rafa Caivano and Lisandro Sona’s reinterpretation of the busy and glossy original number cranks up the BPMs and transforms it into a tropical bass affair. You might be tempted to think it’s a cumbia-tinged rework, but think again: what we get are reggaeton-inspired vibes that match Chef P’s rapped bars, embellished with rhythmic synth stabs and a filtered bass line. The guys do justice to La Mala’s verse, using and repeating it almost as a chorus, so we get extra servings of that Andalusian flavor.
