French-Cuban twin sister duo Ibeyi‘s self-titled debut album just came out last February, and the girls are enjoying a level of success that has allowed them to travel around the world and share their stunning music. But they haven’t dropped the ball since then by any means. On the contrary–they just surprised us by releasing a brand new non-album song called “Exhibit Diaz.”
This song is actually a rework of a great Jay Electronica and LaTonya Givens track called “Better In Tune With The Infinite.” They seamlessly adapted it to their particular sound, adding cajón and electronic elements over the haunting original piano chords. Of course, there’s the distinctive blend of Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi, smooth as velvet. They sing about the difficulties of living in today’s world, backed by steady drum machines.
