Kap G Talks “Power” and Family in His First Single Off ‘El Southside’

Fresh off a studio sesh with none other than J Balvin and Pharrell, Kap G has dropped the first offering from his DJ Drama-hosted mixtape El Southside. The track in question is “Power,” which highlights Kap’s influences as a College Park, Georgia native and the everyday hood struggle.

The video opens with Kap’s mother facing looming money issues. Like any good hijo, Kap volunteers to help out. His intentions may be purer than his career path, however, as Kap gets caught pushing, much to his mother’s dismay. The video leaves some ambiguity as to whether things end up working out for Kap and his family after all.

The track also features fellow ATL emcee YFN Lucci, and fits squarely into the trap landscape dominating the American rap scene, specifically the Atlanta region from which Kap hails. But that’s just one side of the 21-year-old rhymespitter, as he’s previously mentioned that he hopes to bridge the gap between his Mexican roots and his upbringing in the South. With Pharrell backing him, we think there’s little Kap can’t accomplish as a fresh face in hip-hop.

El Southside drops March 7.
