Le Butcherettes Howl Against Those Trying To Keep Them Down On “They Fuck You Over”

Teri Gender Bender is a controversial figure, but one thing that’s not up for debate is her top-notch work ethic. 2014 was good for her band Le Butcherettes; they released Cry Is For The Flies to international critical acclaim and went on tours that saw them share the stage with Omar Rodriguez’s Antemasque and the Melvins, who they’ve been touring with pretty much ever since. Just the other day, Buzz Osborne invited Teri onstage for a faithful cover of Bikini Kill’s riot grrrl anthem “Rebel Girl.”

To keep the ball rolling, Le Butcherettes recorded an album through Mike Patton’s venerable Ipecac Records. A Raw Youth will be available on September 18. To give audiences a taste of what’s in store this time around, they’ve shared a brand new track titled “They Fuck You Over.” It’s pretty self-explanatory, lyrically speaking–a “you-try-to-keep-us-down” paean with urgency to spare.

Musically, the band is still perfecting their blues-punk flavor with Teri’s histrionic and energetic delivery. The song begins with a fuzzy monologue that yields to a crunchy guitar section, backed by dirty drums before the sound builds. It’s a nice nod to 90s production tricks without sounding dated. For the most part, the song is a howler, but its melodic bridge adds to the catchiness. It’s pure rock & roll, full of familiar elements with energetic attitude.
