The biggest and rising stars in regional Mexican music have come together to remind Latinxs to participate in the 2020 U.S. Census. With “Cuenta Conmigo,” acts like Los Tigres del Norte, Ana Barbara, Natanael Cano and Fuerza Regida are driving that point home through cumbia music.

“Cuenta Conmigo” (or “Count On Me”) is a part of an initiative by Univision’s Uforia music brand to make sure Latinxs are fairly counted and represented in the 2020 U.S. Census. Iconic Mexican group Los Tigres de Norte teams up with the queen of grupera Barbara and corridos urbanos stars Cano and Fuerza Regida for the special collaboration.

“We believe that music is a catalyst in bringing our community together and we’re excited to partner with these great artists to convey a message of unity and civic duty to our audience,” said Jesus Lara President of Radio, Univision, in a statement. “Through the power of music, Univision is bringing to life our commitment to inform, empower and entertain Hispanics in America and, ensure a fair and accurate count.”

There’s Latino power behind “Cuenta Conmigo” as well with salsa music legend Sergio George as the song’s executive producer, cumbia music maestro Toy Selecta as producer, and the pens of Erika Ender (co-writer of “Despacito”) and Andy Clay (Karol G’s “Mi Cama” co-writer).

When it comes to the 2020 U.S. Census, there’s fears within the Latinx community of participating as an undocumented immigrant or a household with more people in one place than usual. As Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez assured on Late Night With Seth Meyers last month, “[The data shared] is completely confidential. It’s even confidential within the federal government.”
