Princess Nokia has built a reputation for her fearless audiovisual universe, a celebration of defiant New York City women. After the breakout success of her 1992 EP in 2016, which we hailed as one of the top releases of the year, the rapper brought her slick rhymes to misfits and brujas across the globe on her world tour.
Her latest offering, “G.O.A.T.,” is the first new music she’s released since 1992, and it fits perfectly into this catalog of girl gang visuals. Drawing on classic New York hip-hop storytelling, Nokia cruises down the block in a candy red apple three-wheeler, boasting about her skinny jeans and Vans in a theatrical warble that would make Lil Wayne proud. “I’m Dionne/and you clueless/I got my own movement/I do this/I move shit,” she quips. “Ain’t no average bitch/I been the man/I been the GOAT/eating off the land.”
