The future of tropical bass proves to be in ultra-talented hands, thanks to the Ritmo, Sonido & Bass EP from Monterrey, Mexico’s Worldwide label. Mexico’s Noizekid kicks things off with “Foolanito,” a típico-inspired electro bomb that references merenhouse legends Fulanito and owes a lot of its feel to the evolving jungle terror subgenre. Venezuela continues to be a bass venue worth watching, as Wost pairs with Chucko for dembow-driven electro-trap-meets-reggaeton smash “LENTO,” while fellow Venezuelan and teenage breakout star CrisMajor collabs with M3B for “Locura,” a cumbia-drenched future bass track equipped with an ultra-soulful swing. Oscar Green’s “Mamita’s Dance Machine” is a fun and funky pop take on disco-style cumbia, while the true champion of the EP is ADGEL X Cesarrodrb’s “Indepe 808.” The iconic stentorian horn blast of Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe’s salsa anthem “La Murga de Panama” guides this production through reggaeton and trap vibes, and it might be the most unique but authentic G-funk jam you’ll hear all week.
