Melissa Fumero and her husband David will celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary next month, but the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actress was actually in love with him even before they met.

During a recent stop on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Melissa explained that she was 13 years old when she first saw David in an iconic music video. He was around 23 at the time. The video was for Mariah Carey’s single “Honey” off her 1997 album Butterfly. NBD.

In the video, David plays Mariah’s love interest and joins her on the beaches of Puerto Rico, running on the sand and being playful with the singer, who has just escaped a group of kidnappers via jet ski.

“There was a hot guy that frolicked with her on the beach at the end of the video,” she said. “I was obsessed with that hot guy.”

Melissa Fumero then said that about a decade later, she started dating David; unbeknownst to her, he was the guy she always had a crush on in the “Honey” video. “He casually, one time, trying to impress me, was like, ‘Oh, I was on this gig in Puerto Rico. It was actually a Mariah Carey video.’”

Almost immediately, it seems, Melissa knew exactly what David was talking about and asked him if he was the guy at the end of the “Honey” video. “His eyes got big because I looked – psycho,” she said. After he confirmed that he was, in fact, the guy in the video, Melissa quietly excused herself.

“I just went to the bathroom in my apartment and had a silent freakout,” she said. “And, so, then, I married him.”

Melissa and David met on the set of the soap opera One Life to Live. They were engaged in 2006 and married in 2007. They share two sons, 6-year-old Enzo and 2-year-old Axel.
