After having an exceptional last few years and becoming the first female Mexican gymnast to medal at a world championship, Alexa Moreno has secured a spot on Mexico’s 2020 Olympic team. The Mexicali native came in third in vault during a world championship in Stuttgart, Germany, allowing her to move on to represent her country.

Despite the fact that qualifying for the Olympics is an impressive (and difficult) feat, Moreno was the victim of bullying at the 2016 Games. Some trolls used social media to body-shame Moreno. She had an impressive vault and made tumbles and splits look effortless, but people tried to humiliate her because they didn’t think she had a gymnast’s body.

But because the internet isn’t a complete dumpster fire, many defended Moreno. Several artists began incorporating Moreno into body positive art.
