We’re five months away from the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and Argentina’s National team is one of the teams carrying the most hype going into the competition. They won the last Copa America, as well as the Finalissima, after beating the European Champion, Italy. They also beat Estonia 5-0 in their previous friendly, with five goals from Lionel Messi.

He’s the other reason why there are a lot of expectations placed on Argentina’s National team. Arguably the best player in the world right now, Messi leads a team that seems to be playing its best just before the biggest competition this group has yet to win. Argentina hasn’t won a World Cup since 1986, despite appearing in two World Cup Finals in 1900 and 2014.

Prime Video is bringing all of this – and an inside look at Lionel Scaloni’s team – to our TV screens in a documentary called Selección Argentina, la serie, which is set to premiere on July 10th. The episodes will not just be available in Argentina but in the 240 other countries where Prime Video has a presence.

The documentary is set to tell the story of La Albiceleste from the perspective of the Argentinian players. It will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at how this particular team was crafted, from the arrival of Lionel Scaloni, the current coach, to the personnel decisions that have brought some players in and left others out. It will also chronicle the team’s first match together, their Copa America 2021 triumph, and the World Cup qualifiers.

And though a documentary doesn’t guarantee anything come World Cup time, there’s a certain sense of destiny around this Argentina team that might, perhaps, require a new chapter in this Prime Video series if the Word Cup goes just like Argentina wants it to go.

Selección Argentina, la serie will be available on Prime Video on July 10. The Qatar 2022 World Cup will take place from November 21st to December 18th, 2022.
