Brazil beat Mexico 3-0 and advanced to the first Women’s Gold Cup final. They will face the US, which prevailed against Canada in penalty kicks in the second of the semifinals. The final of the inaugural CONCACAF tournament will take place on Sunday, March 10th at 8:15 ET. It can be watched on Paramount+, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+.

The South American team was in control at all times.

They opened the scoring in the 21’ minute and never looked back. It helped that they played with an extra player for most of the match, with Mexico’s Nicolette Hernandez getting a red card in minute 29. Mexico tried, but they seemed outmatched by a team with much more experience.

Adriana, Antônia, and Yasmin scored for the Brazilian team, nicknamed the Verde-Amarela.

For Mexican fútbol, the Gold Cup can still be considered nothing but a win. They exited the inaugural edition of the women’s Gold Cup in the semifinals after scoring 13 goals and beating the United States for the first time in 14 years. That’s still way above expectations for the team, and proof that there’s a lot of promise in the women’s game in Mexico.

Tournaments like the Gold Cup can only help by giving players a chance to play against other great players on a big stage. For the men’s game, that’s infinitely more common. The women’s game is starting to move forward, and if this women’s Gold Cup has proven anything, it’s that there’s both interest and quality.

Next up is the Olympics, where Brazil, Colombia, the United States, and Canada are also set to play. But before that, Brazil must face the US Women’s National team this Sunday in a game that promises to be a classic for years to come.
