Brazilian gymnast Flavia Saraiva is going viral for a good thing – and a bad thing. The gymnast took a nasty fall while warming up at the uneven bars during the gymnastics team finals on Tuesday, July 30th.

Afterward, she was seen sporting a black eye and a bandage over her eye for the entire competition. But Saraiva didn’t let that stop her. Instead, the gymnast just kept on going.

Saraiva is part of Team Brazil, made up of Rebeca Andrade, 25, Jade Barbosa, 33, Lorrane Oliveira, 26,  Saraiva, 24, and Júlia Soares, 18, that made history at the 2023 Gymnastics World Championships, becoming the first South American team to ever win a medal in the team competition.

In 2019, the Brazilian team missed qualifying for the Olympics. In 2024, she is part of a Brazilian team that came heavily favored for a team medal at Paris 2024. So when she took a bad fall during warmups, Saraiva just got up, went to get medical training, and kept on going. That’s just the type of gymnast Saraiva is.

And the internet celebrated her strength.

Not just because she fell, but because she got up, kept going, and kept her team in contention.

Brazil went on to win the bronze in the team competition, and a lot of that was because of Flavia Saraiva and her resilience.
