Brazilian Superstar Vinícius Júnior To Get His Own Netflix Documentary

Netflix
Update 3/22/24]: Netflix has released the official trailer for Baila, Vini, the documentary about Vinícius Júnior debuting on May 15.
Brazilian superstar Vinícius Júnior is getting his time in the spotlight.
Netflix announced that a documentary focusing on the “life and career of the 24-year-old Brazilian football idol” is set to premiere on the streamer in 2025. No set date has yet been announced for the documentary.
Vinícius Júnior is coming off the kind of season that makes an idol. He won La Liga, the Champions League, and the Spanish Super Cup with his club, Real Madrid, and was instrumental in all three competitions, finishing with 21 goals. That includes his goal in the UCL final against Borussia Dortmund. He was one of the favorites for the Ballon d’Or that ultimately went to Spain’s Rodri, with controversy about the criteria behind the award starting as soon as it was announced he would not be the winner.

But the story of Vinícius Júnior is not just about how good he is on the field, but what he’s had to endure off it—including multiple incidents of racism like the entire stadium at Valencia bombarding him with racist chants, and similar incidents at other stadiums, and even coming from the media, like El Chiringuito’s Pedro Bravo, who referred to the player as a “monkey.”
“I will not stop until this stops,” Vinícius Júnior said at the time, one of the biggest players to shine a spotlight on the importance of curtailing racism in sports. This isn’t the first time Netflix will take a behind-the-scenes look at a player’s life and career, most famously doing so with Beckham, but it is the first time they will have to deal with all the added issues that have made Vinícius Júnior’s rise to fame even more remarkable.
Cameras have been following the Brazilian star since 2023, so the documentary will likely revisit not just key moments in his career, but also his reaction to the racial abuse he has been subjected to.
