Meet Andres Borregales, the Venezuelan Patriots Rookie Going to Super Bowl LX

The New England Patriots barely made it past a Broncos team without their starting QB in the AFC Championship game. But no matter how they got there, the important thing is this: the Patriots are going to the Super Bowl. And that means Andres Borregales will become the first Venezuelan player to play in the NFL’s biggest game.

Borregales, a kicker, was selected by the Patriots as the first kicker of the 2025 NFL Draft with pick No. 182, in the 6th round. And in the AFC Championship game, Borregales kicked the field goal that would end up the decisive points in a very tight 10-7 win over the Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High.

The Patriots’ kicker missed two field goals in a game that ended up being played under heavy snow and conditions where it was very hard to see, much less kick a field goal. But the one he did make, in the first half, ended up being the difference. 

Super Bowl LX will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8, 2026. The game will see the New England Patriots face the Seattle Seahawks. The New England Patriots have two other players from our communities on their roster, Christian Gonzalez, of Colombian heritage, and Jaylinn Hawkins, of Panamanian heritage.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks have two Latino players on their roster, Julian Love, of Mexican and Cuban heritage, and Elijah Arroyo, of Mexican heritage. And they won’t be the only Latinos on the field during this year’s Super Bowl, as Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny is set to headline the Halftime Show.

Our communities are set to have a big presence in the Super Bowl, in the field, in the entertainment, and increasingly also on the stands. And Andres Borregales, a rookie, is one of those names we expect to continue to be following for years to come.
