One of Colombia’s biggest stars came to help open the 2024 Copa América final on Sunday (July 14) night. Karol G showed her support for the Colombia national fútbol team by singing her country’s national anthem.
Karol G’s appearance at the Copa América was meant to be a surprise, but she announced the news earlier today in an interview with Noticias RCN. She arrived at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL this afternoon to rehearse Colombia’s national anthem. Her boyfriend Feid, who is also from Medellín, was also there to support her and cheer on the Colombia national fútbol team tonight. He performed at the Copa América opening ceremony last month.
Karol G’s big moment came at the start of the game. Both Colombia and Argentina’s national fútbol teams lined-up on the field. Argentine singer-songwriter Abel Pintos first performed Argentina’s national anthem. Karol G followed him and belted out Colombia’s national anthem “Oh, Gloria Inmarcesible” while wearing a yellow jersey in support of her country.
There will be more Colombian star power tonight when Shakira performs during the Copa América’s first ever halftime show. The first and only time Colombia brought home the CONMEBOL Copa América trophy was in 2001. Argentina has previously won the tournament 15 times, including the last Copa América in 2021.
