Road trips can be both exhilarating and exhausting. A fire playlist can be the difference between beefing with your friends in a cramped car and a memorable, transformative experience.
For A.CHAL, the Peruvian singer whose standout mixtape On GAZ has him preparing to tour nationwide, one of the keys to a successful trip across the country is exactly that – a hearty playlist. Today, A.CHAL gives Remezcla an exclusive look at the songs that get the most airplay when he’s on the road.
Spanning everything from cumbia to trap en español, the playlist provides a glimpse into the amalgam of sounds and regions that influence his music. There’s a nod to songs from decades past like Spanish balladeer Jeanette’s “El Muchacho de los Ojos Tristes” and salsa legend Willie Colón’s “El Malo.” There are contemporary slaps from Bad Bunny and Tali, as well as spacey indie rock anthems from Desire and Lebanon Hanover.
A few songs in, and you can almost see the landscapes CHAL has traveled and where he’s headed now with his Gazi outpost.
Performing everywhere from The Observatory in Orange County to New York’s Mercury Lounge for a sold out show and then circling all the way back to West Hollywood to close out the tour at the world-renowned Roxy Theater, CHAL is entering the next chapter of his career – one where he’s packing out venues.
