Puerto Rican OG Arcángel dropped his star-studded Los Favoritos 2 album today (Oct. 16). Among the new collaborations, the standout is his reunion with Boricua duo Yaga y Mackie.

Los Favoritos 2 is the sequel to Arcángel’s collaborative album with DJ Luian in 2015. Among the 18 new tracks on this second edition, 16 of them are collaborations. The reggaetón and Latin trap pioneer teams up with fellow OGs like Wisin y Yandel and Cosculluela and superstars like Maluma, Ozuna, and Romeo Santos. Arcángel also includes new school artists like Myke Towers, Sech, and Rauw Alejandro in the mix.

For those who have been following Arcángel’s career since the beginning, he re-recorded the 2007 classic “Aparentemente” with original ensemble: Yaga y Mackie and Nuyorican De La Ghetto. Now dubbed “Aparentemente 2,” the rhythmic song receives an electronic update. It’s refreshed and remastered while the rappers come through with new fire verses. They revisit that Boricua brotherhood that made the original version so irresistible over a decade ago.

Apparently, many old school reggaetoneros are tapping into that nostalgia factor. On his latest album Quién Contra Mi 2, Yandel recorded 2020 versions of his greatest hits “Dembow” with Rauw Alejandro and “Por Mi Reggae Muero” with Anuel AA. Whatever it takes to get a new generation of fans into these classics.

According to Colombian rapper Farina, Los Favoritos 2 is not going to be the only album Arcángel releases. She told Remezcla last month to expect her collaborative album with Arcángel later this year.
