On July 26, the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards revealed their nominations for this year’s ceremony. Though few, there were some Latine artists recognized this year. Here’s who made the cut.

One of the few Latine artists that were nominated outside of the Latin category was the king of streaming. Bad Bunny was nominated for one of the show’s main awards, Artist Of The Year. The Puerto Rican icon is up against Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X, and Lizzo.

The Mexican-American crooner Omar Apollo’s “Tamagotchi” is also nominated this year in the Under the Push Performance Of The Year category. He’s up against Griff’s “One Night,” Remi Wolf’s “Sexy Villain,” Nessa Barrett’s “i hope ur miserable until ur dead,” SEVENTEEN’s “Rock With You,” Mae Muller’s “Better Days,” GAYLE’s “abcdefu,” Sheneesa’s “R U That,” Wet Leg’s “Chaise Longue,” Muni Long’s “Baby Boo,” and Doechii’s “Persuasive.”

As far as the general Latine category of Best Latin goes, Anitta’s “Envolver,”  Bad Bunny’s “Tití Me Preguntó,” Becky G and KAROL G’s “MAMIII,” Daddy Yankee’s “REMIX,” Farruko’s “Pepas,” and J Balvin and Skrillex’s “In Da Getto,” are all nominated. With this nomination, Anitta became the first Brazilian soloist to be nominated for a VMA.

Cardi B is also nominated twice in one category. Her collab with Normani on “Wild Side” and with Summer Walker and SZA on “No Love (Extended Version)” are both nominated under the category of Best R&B. She shares this category with Alicia Keys’ “City of Gods (Part II),” Chlöe’s “Have Mercy,” H.E.R.’s “For Anyone,” and The Weeknd’s “Out Of Time.”

But that wasn’t the category that Cardi B was nominated in. Her collaboration “Wild Side” with Normani is also nominated in the Best Cinematography and Best Choreography categories. Camila Cabello featuring Ed Sheeran’s “Bam Bam” is also nominated for Best Cinematography this year.
