It seems we can expect a The Mars Volta reunion soon, according to some tweets from the band’s frontman, Cedric Bixler-Zavala. As Consequence of Sound noted, earlier this month, Bixler-Zavala Tweeted “We are in the kitchen finding new ways to [throw] curve balls.” Then, in response to another fan on Saturday who mentioned he dreamed of a reunited TMV he tweeted, “It’s happening.”
Bixler-Zavala and guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez quickly formed The Mars Volta from the ashes of seminal post-hardcore band At The Drive-In in 2001, with their other bandmates splitting off to form Sparta.
TMV released 6 albums throughout their career, including De-Loused in the Comatorium, which turned 15 last June, and Frances the Mute, which turns 15 next February. The Mars Volta broke up in 2012, and Bixler-Zavala and Rodriguez-Lopez formed Antemasque, then went on to reunite At The Drive-In in for a brief period in 2011, then again from 2015-2018, sans founding guitarist Jim Ward.
It’s too early to tell when said reunion might take place, but considering the scope and length of their previous At The Drive-In reunion, hopefully we can expect new material and substantial tour dates.
