A debate about Bad Bunny’s impact on dembow music has created a new trend online. After radio personality El Molusco called “Tití Me Preguntó” the best dembow song, people are challenging that claim with other music in the genre.

On Jan. 7, El Molusco hosted a livestream on his YouTube channel about Bad Bunny and his latest album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. During the conversation, he shared his opinion on the Puerto Rican superstar’s 2022 hit “Tití Me Preguntó” from Un Verano Sin Ti. The song became one of the biggest dembow hits of all time when it crossed over a billion streams on Spotify a year later.

“‘Tití Me Preguntó’ is the best dembow song that exists,” El Molusco said. “We have to be grateful for Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny has taken the Dominican people to places where Dominican people have never been before. That’s f**king awesome. El Alfa, everyone, be grateful for Bad Bunny.”

El Alfa is a Dominican pioneer of dembow music. Though the “La Mama de La Mama” hit-maker will retire later this year, he made history in 2021 as the first artist in the genre to sell out a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. El Molusco’s strong words about Bad Bunny have since inspired a new trend online. People are taking his statement about “Tití Me Preguntó” and showing there’s a lot more dembow music that could be considered as the best.

On TikTok, people are claiming that songs like Atomic Otro Way’s “Te De Campana,” “Ponte Tu Chaleco” by Secreto “El Famoso Biberón,” El Alfa’s “Banda De Camión,” and Musicólogo The Libro y Lapiz Conciente’s “Limonada Coco,” are better than Benito’s hit. The trend is showing there are a lot more dembow bangers out there, especially from Dominican artists.
