Elvis Crespo has undergone a new transformation that has everyone talking. The eccentric Puerto Rican singer appears to have taken cues from Charli XCX and Billie Eilish.

Crespo is most known for helping globalize merengue music with his breakthrough hit “Suavemente.” Thanks to his work in the genre, he has won a Grammy and a Latin Grammy award. The cover for Crespo’s 1998 Suavemente album went viral many years later when Spanish pop star Rosalía hit the scene. Many people online noted that both artists looked similar to each other, which made Crespo jokingly deny being Rosalía’s father.

In his Suavemente 25 Aniversario concert special, Crespo revealed a brand new look. The full two-hour concert was uploaded to his official YouTube page earlier this week. In the video, Crespo’s signature long black hair was dyed almost all bright green. A clip that has gone from the concert shows him wearing his green hair down. “I’m tired of being compared to Rosalía. Fed up. Now I want people to compare me to Karol G,” Crespo says in Spanish.

Instead of Rosalía or Karol G, Crespo’s green hair is drawing comparisons to other pop stars: Billie Eilish and Charli XCX. After releasing her debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? in 2019, Eilish added bright green color to hair that made it a popular look for a while. Charlie XCX recently brought green back in style in June thanks to the color of her Brat album cover.

Over on X, one person wrote in Spanish, “Elvis Crespo dyes his hair green to stop looking like Rosalía. Now he is Billie Eilish.”

Another person added, “Elvis Crespo going brat was not on my lottery ticket.”

Back in 2022, Crespo talked about the Rosalía comparisons and Bad Bunny paying homage to him in an interview with Remezcla. Bad Bunny appeared to pull from Crespo’s ‘90s aesthetic for his “Neverita” music video at that time.
