On Monday (January 2), Bad Bunny tweeted a response to the backlash he was receiving after a recent interaction he had with a fan in the Dominican Republic.
During the interaction, Bad Bunny is walking with a small entourage when he is confronted by a fan who gets close to the singer and begins taking selfies or recording videos of herself walking with him.
After a few seconds, Bad Bunny grabs her phone away from her and throws it a few yards away. The woman has a shocked look on her face. There are also audible gasps that can be heard when he tosses it. “Wow. Are you serious?” another woman says as Bad Bunny keeps walking to his destination.
Bad Bunny then took to Twitter to clear up the situation.
“The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect,” he wrote. “Those who come to put a @#$% phone in my face, I will consider it for what it is – a lack of respect and I will treat it likewise. #SINCOJONESMETIENE.”
People began to comment on his response immediately.
Some felt Bad Bunny’s personal space was invaded and that he was simply reacting to an overzealous fan. “Mira gente esto es simple,” another Twitter user wrote. “Respeten y todo sale bien. Sentido común. Artista o no, tengan consiente que todos somos los mismos. Quizás tirar el teléfono no fue la mejor idea, pero tu sabes lo que es que te invadan tu espacio 24/7? Bastante respeto y amor les ha dado a TODOS USTDS.”
There were some fans who thought he was wrong for the way he handled the situation. “¿Eres el artista #1 del mundo y esperas que la gente no quiera una foto contigo?” one Twitter user wrote. “Pon los pies en la tierra y deja de comportarte como un huelebicho. Si no quieres que se te acerquen con teléfonos dale al instrucción a tu equipo de seguridad, que para eso están. Buen payaso.”
Some fans brought up that the full picture wasn’t depicted of Bad Bunny’s interactions that night. That same evening, Bad Bunny was recorded having other interactions with younger fans.
