Singer and songwriter Belinda has broken her silence on the breakup between her and her fiancé Christian Nodal. She posted a statement on social media a few days after Nodal made it official that the couple had ended their engagement.
In the statement, she thanked her fans for their “unconditional love and support” and talked about how difficult the last few days have been. “You know more than anyone that I am an introverted person,” Belinda wrote. “It is because I always try to take care of my heart, but it inevitably hurts a lot.”
Belinda also shared a quote from French philosopher Simone De Beauvoir that seemed to capture what she was currently feeling. “The day a woman can love not with her weakness but with her strength, not escape from herself but find herself, not humiliate herself but affirm herself, that day love will be for her, as for man, a source of life.” Belinda added that it is time for a “new stage” in her life to begin.
Nodal and Belinda had been dating for a few months before they got engaged in May 2021. In February, it was reported that the couple stopped following each other on Instagram. Soon after, Nodal deleted all the photos of Belinda from his account. His mother, Cristy Nodal, also followed in her son’s footsteps and purged Belinda’s pics.
While neither Nodal nor Belinda have talked about the reason for their breakup, plenty of rumors are swirling around the internet, including the theory that Nodal’s mother was unhappy that her son was engaged to someone nine years older than him. Another rumor states that Belinda had asked Nodal for $4 million to pay back taxes but only needed a fraction of that amount.
